Темний Рай

Ihor Rudenia

It was a wonderful day of autumn 1983, it was snowing in Kyiv, the city of chestnuts, on November 15, and it was the day I was born in the family of a serviceman. Chornobyl nuclear power plant exploded in 1986, USSR collapsed in 1991, I went to school, from which I graduated with a silver medal. Then I studied and received higher economic education degree with honors. After that I had a short period of work with the last entry in the employment record book “government worker”.

There were two revolutions in 2004 and 2014, I watched the decline of the state, but did not interfere in the choice of the Ukrainian people. I stopped believing in the development of human relationships, where people choose darkness and turn away from light. The more I get to know people, the further I want to go into the woods — that's why I live as a hermit.

Since 2005, I have been living in Ladyzhychi village in Chornobyl zone among swamps in deserted places of wild nature in full autonomy, where animals have become my neighbors and interlocutors. Solitude, silence, boundless power and beauty of pure nature — this is what I have been painting since 2006. Today, my creative heritage consists of more than 70 works. But, the paintings are not for beauty — they are for deep learning of the energy of life and existence, supplemented by philosophical notes on the back of the works, which give a hint to the source.
In my works, there is no human world, in some places there are remnants of civilization that are absorbed by the green world and solitude. A world, where there is neither good nor evil, a world, where there is one truth and the unshakable laws of nature and the universe, a world that goes to the stars and carries the spark of life for rebirth.
